Day 19: Book Learning

College resumes for me pretty soon. I’ve scheduled five classes for myself this semester. More than enough, but I’m trying to get done. Hopefully, I can incorporate school into my new healthy lifestyle. It takes lots of work and dedication, but I’m committed to finishing.

When people asked me in the past what I wanted to do with my degree and I used to not have a real answer. For a while, graduation felt to far away to worry about. An unattainable goal to keep reaching for. Now, it’s sneaking up on me. I’ve given it some thought and I think I know what I want to do with my life.

I want to be a sex educator, specifically working with teens and young adults. I live in an area with one of the highest STI rates in the country. People don’t have to spread disease like this. It makes it very dangerous for people to live their lives. Proper education is one way to combat infection. I also happen to know that there isn’t very accessible way for people to get that education around here. I want to help.

I’m taking some sexuality and gender classes to build my knowledge base. Here’s hoping my career path isn’t too rocky.
